Moonrise Beauty – A Dobsonian Tribute

One of the first sky objects that piques the fascination of a beginner astronomer is the Moon. It stuns me to know how much detail and depth there is to discover in this natural satellite of our Solar System, and the more I observe, the more there is to learn! A favourite instrument with anyone keen on the night sky are Dobsonian Telescopes.

When I met my first Dobsonian, a 10-inch scope, I was surprised as it was a mere, simply structured tube. I didn’t expect it would match up to some Cassegrain, motorized designs that I had heard of. Yet looking through the dobsonian, I was amazed that even a 5, 6-inch telescope can take in so much light and produce so much detail. In fact today, the Skywatcher Heritage 5” Table Top Dobsnian Telescope (P130), a cute and almost toy-like Dobsonian keep many young kids looking into the sky and falling in love with astronomy. I’m not surprised that it does that.

And we have John Dobson to thank for the invention of the Dobsonian that has indeed taken astronomy into backyards and many camping trips…

And hey, no telescope you say? That should not keep you from looking up the night skies, for you’ll be surprised at what you can see with your naked eye =)
