The Celestron CGX 1100 Schmidt-Cassegrain GoTo Telescope (also known as the CGX 11) delivers the perfect blend of optical performance and mount stability for serious visual observing and advanced astrophotography. This combo combines the innovative CGX computerised goto equatorial mount with a 11" Schmidt Cassegrain OTA with premium StarBright XLT coated optics.
With the optical tube assembly (OTA) weighing only 12.4kg, the Celestron CGX 1100 Schmidt-Cassegrain GoTo Telescope is a great companion for trips. This CGX telescope has 89% more light-gathering power than an 8" telescope and 40% more than a 9.25". For astrophotography, the CGX mount offers a sturdier platform with a smoother, heavy-duty belt drive system. It also features advanced software and new electronic and ergonomic features for the best starry night adventures!
Celestron CGX Mount & Tripod – Heavy-Duty Equatorial GoTo Performance
The new CGX equatorial mount was designed to better support your telescope for both visual and astrophotography. It is Celestron's new equatorial backbone to support a wide range of telescopes.
With a maximum payload capacity of 25kg, the CGX equatorial mount handles heavy optical tubes and imaging accessories with ease. Its wider stance, low centre of gravity, and improved rigidity result in faster vibration dampening—perfect for field use or permanent observatories.
Smooth Tracking with Heavy-Duty Belt Drive
The CGX 1100 Goto Mount uses a heavy-duty belt-driven system that reduces backlash and ensures smooth motor operation. A spring-loaded brass worm wheel paired with a stainless steel worm gear delivers precision tracking for long exposure astrophotography, even under full load.
Integrated Cable Management and Sensor Safety
All cabling on the Celestron CGX 1100 mount is internal, keeping power and accessory ports stationary during slewing to avoid cable snags. Internal optical sensors and hard stops on both axes prevent over-rotation and damage, while home position sensors let the mount reset automatically. Limit sensors provide added protection by stopping tracking before reaching mechanical extremes.
Dual Saddle Compatibility and Adjustable Head Position
A dual-fit dovetail saddle accepts both CG-5/Vixen and CGE/Losmandy dovetails, giving you flexibility with different OTAs. The adjustable equatorial head optimises the centre of gravity and supports observers from 3° to 65° latitude, expanding global usability.
Heavy-Duty CGX Tripod with Enhanced Stability
The CGX equatorial mount is supported by a heavy-duty tripod engineered for both stability and convenience. Its 2" stainless steel legs provide excellent rigidity and include height index markings to make levelling quicker and more accurate. The tripod includes Celestron's improved accessory tray that holds up to three 1.25-inch eyepieces, two 2-inch eyepieces, a smartphone, or other small accessories. For enhanced tracking, the tripod allows an additional 20 degrees of motion past the meridian on either side, maximising uninterrupted imaging or observing sessions. When it’s time to pack up, the tripod legs can be collapsed without removing the accessory tray, streamlining the setup and teardown process for users on the go.
Electronics Compatibility
Equipped with the latest Celestron technology, the CGX 1100 SCT offers robust electronics and seamless connectivity for both visual observers and astrophotographers. For those who choose the CGX 1100 for astrophotography, a plethora of advanced features enable you to have precise alignment and accurate long exposure tracking with no star trails. The included NexStar+ hand controller features a built-in USB port for direct PC connectivity, while two AUX ports support Celestron’s StarSense AutoAlign and SkyPortal WiFi Module accessories. For guiding, the CGX 1100 GoTo Equatorial Mount includes a dedicated autoguider port, and the USB 2.0 port on the hand controller allows for software control via Celestron’s CPWI software, Starry Night Special Edition, and the SkyPortal App. Power is supplied via a threaded 12V DC input for a secure and reliable connection. An internal real-time clock ensures your site and time data is retained, even after power cycles, streamlining alignment and setup at remote locations.
If you're looking for a large-aperture system with portability and power, the CGX 1100 is among the top Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes available.
Compatible With:
The CGX 1100 is compatible with all current Celestron technologies, including StarSense Autoguider, StarSense AutoAlign Accessory and SkyPortal wifi module for ultimate user friendly experience and improved alignment.
