The Celestron 8 inch OTA features advanced Celestron EdgeHD optics designed to produce a flat-field image from edge-to-edge of the focal plane, virtually eliminating aberrations like coma. Compared to a standard C8 SCT, the Celestron 8 EdgeHD records a focal plane that is three times flatter.

Specialised Features

Certain features are only found on the Celestron EdgeHD range that are not available in the standard Schmidt-Cassegrain. These include mechanical features such as: 

• Mirror Clutches: Flexible tension clutches hold the mirror in place and reduce image shift when taking long exposure astro-images. Once focused, the flexible rods allow the mirror to be held in place without putting any force or pressure on the mirror assembly, keeping the image centered in the eyepiece (or on the sensor).

• Tube Vents: Vents on the rear cell allow hot air to be released from behind the primary mirror, each with an integrated 95-micron mesh filter. This feature helps the C8 OTA reach thermal equilibrium faster.

• Fastar Versatility: Like other Cassegrain telescopes in the Celestron Edge HD lineup, this Celestron C8 OTA is Fastar compatible. This allows the f/10 system to be converted to an ultra-fast f/2 wide-field imaging system with a separate FASTAR adapter, making this a truly versatile Cassegrain Reflecting telescope.
