No telescope or astronomy knowledge required.
With a simple user-friendly design, this innovative technology cuts all the frustrations of manually learning the skies, scouring through star maps, and spending $100s on computerised technology. This is a true beginners telescope for hassle-free viewing. This special design operates similar to facial recognition technology, instead looking for similiarities and patterns in star clusters or 'star mapping'. In a nut shell, it's brilliant, easy to use and ahead of its time!
The Celestron StarSense DX 6, which is also known as the StarSense Explorer DX 6-inch Telescope, is a 6" Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope with StarBright XLT coatings that deliver bright and clear views of most bright celestial objects.

Q1. How do I set up my Celestron StarSense Explorer telescope for the first time?
Start by assembling the tripod and attaching the telescope. Mount the StarSense smartphone dock, place your phone in it, and open the StarSense Explorer app. Enter your activation code (included in your telescope's box) and follow the on-screen instructions to align your phone with the telescope using the calibration target.
Q2. I have lost my phone that has the Celestron StarSense Explorer app! How many times can I use the activation code?
If you've lost your original phone or would like to activate a new smart device, you can activate the StarSense Explorer app using your original activation code up pto a total of 5 times.
Q3. Does the StarSense Explorer need power or Wi-Fi to work?
No, the telescope doesn’t require a power supply or Wi-Fi. It uses your phone’s GPS, camera, and sensors to help you navigate the night sky. Just make sure your phone is fully charged and download the app before you go to places without reception.
Q4. How do I align the telescope with the StarSense app?
Once your phone is mounted and the app is open, you’ll be prompted to centre a bright object in the eyepiece and match it on your phone screen. This process syncs your phone’s view with the telescope’s direction.
Q5. Can I use the telescope during the daytime?
No, unfortunately you cannot use this telescope during the daytime for viewing long distance objects. They will appear flipped due to the mirror part of this optical design. Never point it at the Sun unless you have a proper solar filter attached to the front of the telescope.
Q6. What’s the best way to clean the telescope’s optics?
Only clean the optics when necessary. Use a soft air blower or lens brush to remove dust. For smudges, lightly wipe with a lens cleaning cloth and optical cleaning solution. Avoid touching the glass directly. We recommend the saxon Optical Lens Cleaning Kit.
Q7. How should I store the telescope when I’m not using it?
Keep the telescope in a cool, dry space. Use a dust cover or padded case to protect it, and remove your smartphone before storing. Avoid damp or humid conditions.
Q8. What should I do if the app isn’t pointing accurately?
Double-check that your phone is properly aligned using the calibration target. Make sure it’s firmly secured in the dock and that the telescope moves smoothly. If needed, recalibrate in the app.
Q9. Are there any useful accessories to consider?
Additional eyepieces, a moon filter, a smartphone adapter for basic astrophotography, and a padded case are great add-ons that can improve your viewing experience.
