Optics Central welcomes you to join us for the International Observe the Moon Night! Everyone on Earth is invited, from beginners, families, astronomy and astrophotography enthusiasts to come together and observe our closest celestial neighbour. Event starts at 7PM!

We'll have a wide range of telescopes and binoculars on display for you to take full advantage of and get a closer look at the moon and explore the rest of the night sky. Be ready to be blown away by the craters on the moon & the magnificent sight of the planets!

 

What To Expect 

Whether you are a novice, amateur astronomer or seasoned astrophotographer, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the moon and marvel at its brilliance. For those eager to learn, we will have a live telescope demonstration, where we will guide you on how to use a telescope to navigate the night sky, from simple reflectors or refractors to automated computerised systems. You will have the hang of it in no time!

 

Calling All Generations: Kids Welcome, Guaranteed FUN!

If you are planning to bring your kids, they will receive a valued introduction to astronomy with the opportunity to learn about the wonders of the night sky and observe the moon. But that's not all! There will be loads of fun activities available to for them to take part in. From colouring-in work stations to fun games such as "Rockets and Comets", there will be plenty of activities to keep them entertained.

 

A Special Treat For The Astronomy Enthusiasts 

If you are an amateur astronomer or avid astrophotographer, we have exciting news for you! How does a Astrophotography Live-Stacking Tutorial sound? Our expert astronomers will demonstrate how to photograph objects in the night, with the opportunity to expand your knowledge as well as have any questions answered. You will also have the chance to hear from our special guest speakers from the Astronomical Society of Victoria & the Astronomical Society of Geelong, who are keen to share their expertise on astronomy and astroimaging.

 

Exciting Competions! Prizes Up For Grabs

All attendees can participate in the competitions that we'll be running, and of course, there will be prizes for the winner(s). We will be running an Astronomy Pictionary Tournament, so please form groups of two or three in advance for your chance to win.
