Saxon's extensive research brought them to design a piece that collapses at its tube for portability. Should you ever need to transport your tube, it can be taken apart as two compact pieces and then assembled again for use - in mere seconds!  The Saxon 8 inch Dobsonian Telescope is also fitted with a quality Crayford focuser. Crayfords offer very smooth motion controls so you can make fine focus adjustments. It is also easy to collimate once set up, and it holds its collimation throughout the evening! The bearing system has been redesigned as well. The new Saxon Collapsible Dobsonians feature buttery smooth azimuth bearings. Just like the traditional Dobsonians, the new Collapsible Dobsonians feature Saxon's patented tension adjustment control on the altitude bearings. This eliminates the need and added cost of clumsy counterweight systems to balance the telescope. Tension Control HandleThis Saxon Dob is fitted with a Tension Control Handle (US Patent #6,940,642), to provide a tension adjuster so that users can easily turns to add or reduce tension, thereby increasing or decreasing the friction between the optical tube and the sideboard of the mount. Telescopes then need not be balanced in order to stay in position.
