The EQ8-Ri features a computerized German equatorial mount with a counterweight shaft measuring 2.5 cm in diameter and extending to 35.2 cm with the included extension. It operates using DC hybrid stepper motors with a resolution of 0.14 arc seconds, ensuring precise movement and tracking. The mount supports various guiding speeds ranging from 0.125x to 1x, and slew speeds from 1.25x to an impressive 3.4°/sec (800x), providing flexibility for different observational needs.
The SynScan GoTo system is a standout feature of the EQ8-Ri, offering access to a comprehensive database of over 42,900 objects. This includes Messier, Caldwell, NGC, IC, Double Stars, Named Stars, Variable Stars, and SAO catalogues.
